SPAM/For your interpretation only..., 2010

On 10.02.2010, an email in the style of spam was sent out to all my contacts with a link to a video flashing quickly through much of my work. The work hopes to investigate a relationship between how we receive and are persuaded into viewing information through the likes of spam emails and also through the hierarchies and intricacies of the art-world. There is much chance that the work is never activated to its full extent by the email recipient not participating by clicking on the video-link, thus inviting an inherent failure into the work; a celebration of intended failure if you like.
SPAM also attempts to criticise the art lexicon, on which so much emphasis is placed in relation to 'respect'. Spam has its own lexicon which often relies on computer generated text, therefore often resulting in poorly-structured and grammatical sentences along with mis-spelt words, a far cry from the cool'ly-constructed prose of the art-world.
The manipulation attempted through spam = manipulation of flashing images
